Lula Lounge
1585 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M6K 1T9
My husband’s cousin was celebrating a milestone birthday recently and decided to have her birthday party at Lula Lounge. It is located at Dufferin and Dundas St W and has Latin nights on Fridays and Saturdays. It had been a while since I had been to a nightclub, especially a Latin one so it brought back memories of when my friend and I used to go salsa dancing at Babaluu. Remember Babaluu? It was a Latin nightclub in Yorkville that, unfortunately, closed in 2015. My friend and I had some good times there.
On Fridays and Saturdays, Lula Lounge seems to be geared more towards hosting special events for larger groups (12 or more people) that want the $69 + tax package of dinner and a show (by reservation only) from 7 to 9:30 pm. This includes a three-course fixed-price Latin American-inspired dinner menu, salsa lessons, a live Latin band show, and a DJ.
Since it was a Saturday night and our group was doing the package, we ordered from the fixed-price menu. Both my husband and I chose the Avocado and Roasted Corn Salad for our appetizers. For my main course, I got the Chicken and Rajas Poblanas and my husband got the Slow-Braised Pork. I chose the Fresh Fruit & Cream and my husband ordered the Flourless Espresso Chocolate Cake for dessert. One thing to note is that even though the package costs $69, if you want some of the menu items such as the AAA Canadian Striploin Steak, you have to pay extra. Maybe I should have ordered the steak instead since my husband was paying…
The food at Lula Lounge is delicious. I can see why they call themselves a “top restaurant”. The Avocado and Roasted Corn Salad was fresh and the lime vinegarette they used was light and flavourful. My Chicken and Rajas Poblanas was creamy and had a good amount of tender chicken, and the vegetables were tasty as well. My husband’s Slow-Braised Pork was also really tender and the whole dish had a nice, sweet taste. His Flourless Espresso Chocolate Cake was moist and was better than my Fresh Fruit & Cream, which was literally small pieces of fresh fruit with cream. Did I really expect it to be something other than that? 😂
If you want to have a special event somewhere (we saw a couple of bachelorette parties when we were there) that has good food and don’t want to have to do too much planning, Lula Lounge is a good choice. Also, if you bring a party of more than 12 people, you get one fixed-price meal and a mojito for free. Free food and alcohol? Sounds pretty good to me!
