Anna Roti House

2367 Kingston Rd, Scarborough, ON M1N 1V1

I haven’t been this excited to blog about a restaurant in a while. Maybe I shouldn’t have admitted that, but it wasn’t to take anything away from the other restaurants featured on my recent blog posts. It is just that I have been searching for good butter chicken roti closer to where I live for the past 16 years. That was when I left my previous company located in Liberty Village, and I was only a 10-minute drive away from Gandhi Indian Cuisine on Queen Street West.

Gandhi Indian Cuisine was a hole-in-the-wall restaurant (which I find usually has the best food, and they were no exception) that I’m sure a lot of Torontonians remember. My coworkers at my previous company and I used to sometimes get takeout from there for lunch and dinner, if we had to work late. Without fail, I always ordered the Butter Chicken Roti with the hot spicy level because it was delicious, had the perfect amount of heat, and it would last me at least two meals. Unfortunately, Gandhi Indian Cuisine closed in June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but from what I have researched, Roti Mahal Indian Cuisine, which is there now, is run by the same staff and they have a similar menu.

This blog post is actually about Anna Roti House, though; I just wanted to explain why I was so happy to have found Anna Roti House on Kingston Rd near Midland Ave. It was on my list to try for awhile and since I was finally passing by that area recently, I decided to get take-out from there for my husband and I. Tip: If you place your order online, there is a disclaimer that the food will take 35 minutes to be ready so I called to place my order instead and it was ready in 10 minutes.

My husband and I both got the Butter Chicken Roti (are you surprised?) with a medium spicy level in case hot was too hot for us (I find even though I like spicy, my body might not as I get older). The butter chicken in the roti was the best butter chicken I’ve had in a very long time – the sauce was flavourful and rich, had a depth to it, and had the right amount of spice, and the chicken was tender and plentiful.

Anna Roti House might also be a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, but you know the food is amazing when you can’t stop complimenting it as you eat it. Their Butter Chicken Roti was just as good (I might even dare to say it’s better, but 16 years is a long time for my taste buds to remember) as the one from Gandhi Indian Cuisine. Have I mentioned how happy I am to have found Anna Roti House yet? I can’t wait to go back to order the Butter Chicken Roti again. Maybe one day I will get tired of it, but I have 16 years to make up for…
