It was a milestone birthday for my dad this year. I originally wanted to throw him a party or BBQ to celebrate it, but since several family members wouldn’t have been able to make it, my husband and I ended up taking my parents out to dinner for his birthday instead. My dad wasn’t picky about where to go so I suggested a steak restaurant, and after some research, ended up picking Blackhorn Steakhouse. It got good reviews and was in the same plaza as my favourite Greek butcher, Kostas Meat Market. Looking at the restaurant from the parking lot whenever I went to Kostas Meat Market didn’t wow me, but I, for the most part, trust people’s reviews on Google. I’m so glad I did and I think my husband and parents agree…
Even though Blackhorn Steakhouse was understated from the outside, the inside was classy. The restaurant didn’t have a modern look, but I think that’s what made it look more appealing and gave it character. A lot of items on the Blackhorn Steakhouse menu sounded amazing so we were all looking at the menu for a bit, both beforehand and when we were at the restaurant. I ended up getting the New York striploin 8 oz, my husband got the same but the 10 oz option, my mom ordered the Fettuccine seafood, and my dad ordered the Charbroiled lamb chops fresh cut.
Each meal came with a garden salad to start, and the steak and lamb chop meals came with roasted potatoes and fresh vegetables. Blackhorn Steakhouse’s house dressing on the garden salad was good; it was a balsamic vinaigrette-type dressing. My husband and I both got our steak medium done. The steaks were nicely charred on the outside and pink on the inside, while the meat was tender and juicy. My mom’s Fettuccine seafood had an abundance of fresh seafood, so much so that she gave me two mussels and one tiger shrimp. The seafood tasted fresh and saucy from the Alfredo sauce. My dad’s meal came with a good amount of lamb chops. He must have enjoyed them a lot because he didn’t offer any of us a taste of them. 😂 Even the tiramisu I ordered my dad for his birthday cake was delicious. I don’t really like cake, but after my mom’s insistence that it was really good, I tried a bite. It was one of the best tiramisus I have ever had – it was moist and flavourful.
We were all impressed with Blackhorn Steakhouse. Even my mom who is usually difficult to please really liked it. (I won’t tell her that the tiramisu birthday cake wasn’t free…) It was also a good sign when both my husband and I said we would much rather go back to Blackhorn Steakhouse for steak in the future than The Keg. It will be difficult to go back and not order another steak, but there are so many other delicious options to try. Should I try the Charbroiled lamb chops next?
