Hutch’s On The Beach

Do you love fish and chips as much as I do? If so, one of the best places to go for fish and chips in the Greater Toronto Area is Hutch’s on the Beach. It’s in Hamilton so it can be a bit of a drive depending on where you live in the GTA, but you can always stop there on the way to or from Niagara Falls. That’s what we do, but we also love it so much that we sometimes drive to Hamilton just to get fish and chips from there.

As you can probably guess, Hutch’s on the Beach is right by the water (Lake Ontario) so it has awesome views. It is not a fancy place; it has a diner feel to it (they even have a jukebox), but it gets packed, especially in the summer. If you don’t get there right when they open, you will have to wait in the line that goes out the door. Despite their long lines, the staff is efficient so you will still get your food pretty quickly.

I always order the small fish and chips (currently $9.40) because the piece of fish they give you is pretty big and I can’t finish it in one sitting. Their gravy is really good too so I usually get a large gravy to dip my fries in. My husband sometimes gets the large fish and chips (currently $14.90), which comes with two pieces of fish because he doesn’t want to be jealous of my leftovers later. 😂 Tip: When they call your number for you to pick up your food from the front, ask them for tartar sauce if you want any (they don’t automatically give you tartar sauce for your fish and chips).

Their fish and chips are amazing! The batter on the fish is crispy and tasty and the fish is soft and thick so it isn’t mostly battered like with a lot of other fish and chips. Their fresh-cut fries are also really good and soft. I can’t rave about their fish and chips enough and their prices are good for the amount of food you get. If you are ever in Hamilton, I highly recommend you stop and try Hutch’s on the Beach.
