Olde Yorke Fish & Chips
96 Laird Dr, East York, ON M4G 3V3
There doesn’t seem to be a shortage of fish and chips restaurants in the Greater Toronto Area so kudos to the owners of the ones that serve fish and chips which stand out. Even though I will happily eat fish and chips served at most restaurants, I have only been wowed by a few, with Olde Yorke Fish & Chips being one of them.
Olde Yorke Fish & Chips is located southeast of Bayview and Eglinton, a little north of Amsterdam Barrel House, and is a British pub, which is why it has the same vibe as a pub I went to in London. My friend had heard Olde Yorke Fish & Chips was good so he suggested trying it one day a few years ago and I have been going back ever since. Note: Be prepared to stand in line if you go during the lunch or dinner rush because I’m not the only one who likes their food…
Even though there are some interesting main course options, such as cod cheeks & chips, clamstrips & chips, and scallops & chips, I always get the haddock & chips when I go to Olde Yorke Fish & Chips. It is fairly priced at $16 (currently) and is delicious. The fish is flavourful, fresh, meaty, and tender, with light, crispy batter. Their chips are hand cut and soft, and their coleslaw is fresh and only lightly mayoed (I should coin that term…), which I like.
If you go to Olde Yorke Fish & Chips in the summer, you get the choice of sitting in the dining room or their enclosed patio. They also have good beer there so what is there not to like about this quaint restaurant? I guess now it is up to you to give Olde Yorke Fish & Chips a try to find out. 😊
