Firehouse Subs

170 Kingston Rd E Unit 4A, Ajax, ON L1Z 0C7

I first learned about Firehouse Subs when a commercial for it came on TV one evening. Thinking they were only in the U.S, I wished that there were more sub-options in Canada. Curiosity got the better of me so I looked it up and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are also a chain here. How come no one ever told me about them???

My husband and I decided to try Firehouse Subs shortly after seeing the commercial. (I guess commercials do really help companies market their product and now I’m helping them even further by spreading the word. 😜) The décor kept true to Firehouse Subs’ name by being firehouse-themed. We walked by some graphics of all their sub selections and I wondered how I would be able to choose. My husband must have had the same thought because he asked a staff member for a recommendation. They suggested the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket sub because it is made with beef brisket that has been smoked for up to 16 hours. That was a quick sell!

When we were at the cash register, they asked us if they could round up our total bill as a donation to first responders and public safety organizations. It is cool of Firehouse Subs to do that. They’re not asking us for a lot of money, but every little bit makes a difference so I think it’s a win-win.

The drive back home seemed to take forever because I couldn’t wait to try my sub. Boy, was it worth the wait though and that is why I’m blogging about a chain restaurant. I got mine with whole wheat bread and it was surprisingly better than my husband’s white bread. It was the first time I’ve had whole wheat bread that is softer and more moist than the white. Why am I talking about the bread though? The Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket sub was delicious. The beef brisket was so tender and flavourful, the toppings fresh and the cheese melted just right, even after the drive home. It also came with a restaurant-quality pickle spear on the side.

My husband and I were both amazed at how yummy the subs were. It wasn’t something we were expecting at all. We loved it so much, we went back a couple of weeks later and both ordered the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket sub again. Since then, we have gone back and I have tried the Turkey Bacon Ranch sub, while my husband has tried the Club on a Sub and Firehouse Hero subs. They are all delicious. I am glad I was introduced to Firehouse Subs by my TV…

Update: I have found Firehouse Subs not quite the same since Restaurant Brands International Inc. acquired it in late 2021.
