For my birthday this year, my best friend wanted to treat me to a spa getaway, but she admitted that it was as much for her as it was for me. 😉 We ended up choosing White Oaks Resort & Spa since they have a Girls Just Wanna package, which is the grown-up version of a slumber party. It included one night of accommodations, a $150 spa credit per person, in-room movie and snacks, a $30 breakfast credit per person, and a $100 dinner credit per person at one of their restaurants – LIV Restaurant. How cool is that, and guess where we went for dinner that night?
LIV Restaurant had a patio and it was a beautiful evening so we decided to sit outside. In typical fashion, we ordered appetizers and entrées to share, allowing us to try as much of the food as possible. We got the Tempura oyster mushrooms, Beef ribeye, and Scallops. It’s a good thing the server advised us that the chef doesn’t skimp on the portions at LIV Restaurant. Otherwise, we would have ordered two more dishes. Can you tell we love food?
As if we didn’t have enough food coming our way, our server also brought us an amuse-bouche between courses, regular bread, and focaccia bread that they had made themselves. The first amuse-bouche was made of blueberries, vegetables, and nuts, and the second one was a mango sorbet – both of them were flavourful. The breads were soft and really good, and came with baba ghanoush, whipped butter, and olive oil and balsamic vinegar to spread on or dip the bread in.
When the Tempura oyster mushrooms with a chili aioli dip came out, I knew I was screwed. True to the server’s word, the portion size was huge, and after eating two of the big chunks of crispy-battered oyster mushrooms, I was already getting full. I was disappointed that I couldn’t eat much of the 14 oz Beef ribeye, which was tender and flavourful with a Canadian whisky demi-glace. The Scallops were also tender, and the accompanying risotto was creamy and flavoured with vanilla bean. My leftovers the next day did not disappoint though…
My experience at LIV Restaurant was wonderful. It was the first time a fine dining meal defeated me and I didn’t want another meal to fill me up afterwards. The service at LIV Restaurant was also excellent, and our server provided good recommendations on food and drinks. She also gave us free sparkling wine and dessert since we were celebrating my birthday. Actually, all of the customer service we received at White Oaks Resort & Spa was outstanding. Whether you want a romantic getaway, to play squash, or to have a great time with your girl friends in Niagara-on-the-Lake, White Oaks Resort & Spa is an excellent pick. With our dinner credits, our drinks and meals at LIV Restaurant only cost $50 after tip…amazing!
