Xiao Long Bao
175 Commander Blvd #1, Scarborough, ON M1S 3L6
There are good restaurants at the Chartwell Shopping Centre on Brimley Rd, between Sheppard Ave E and Finch Ave E, since this is the second restaurant in that plaza I am posting about, the first being Di An Vietnamese Cuisine Scarborough. Xiao Long Bao, formerly known as Ding Tai Fung, used to cause confusion as there is a Taiwanese restaurant chain with a very similar name. It was renamed in March 2026 after 27 years, but everything else remains the same according to my Google search.
My parents like Sushi Legend, and every time we went there for lunch, my husband would say he wanted to try Xiao Long Bao, which is right next door. We finally got that chance when his family was in town last year (it took me so long to write about this restaurant that their name changed in the meantime…).
We ordered seven dishes to share – The Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings had a little bit of soup inside, which is common with Shanghai dumplings (called Xiao Long Bao, same as the restaurant’s name). The Steamed Shrimps and Pork Siu Mai were nicely presented with steamed shrimp on top, the pork inside was tender, and they also had a soup filling. The pork in the Stir-Fried Green Beans with Minced Pork was flavourful, the Pork with Sweet and Sour Sauce was crispy, and the beef in the Shredded Beef with Chinese Broccoli was succulent. The Pineapple Jumbo Shrimps were really tasty and even better than the shrimp with mango salad at Congee Queen. Lastly, I like Shanghai noodles, so the Fried Shanghai-Style Sauté Noodles with Shredded Pork was right up my alley.
I have nothing but good things to say about Xiao Long Bao. The restaurant looked modern inside, the service was good, it didn’t take long for our food to be ready, and the food was delicious and flavorful. Shanghainese cuisine seems to be lacking in the Greater Toronto Area, which is a shame, but at least we have Xiao Long Bao as a good option in Scarborough.
