The County Canteen
Prince Edward County (PEC) is one of my favourite places to go to in Ontario because they have wineries, cideries, breweries, good food, and picturesque scenery. I don’t think I’m the only one who likes PEC because it seems to be getting increasingly busy each year so maybe I shouldn’t be telling even more people about Prince Edward County, but I think someone let the cat out of the bag a while ago…
My husband and I went to PEC again this summer and decided to try The County Canteen in Picton, which is the largest town in Prince Edward County. The patio at The County Canteen is not the biggest so it was good that we went early because they already had a wait-list. Luckily, it only took us 10 min to get a table though.
After a little deliberation since I had already looked at their menu beforehand (can you tell how much I love food?), I ordered the Beef Brisket sandwich and my husband got the Walt’s Burger. If you have been reading my blog posts, I’m sure you are not surprised that my husband chose the burger… The Beef Brisket at The County Canteen was some of the best beef brisket I’ve ever had. The beef was buttery, so soft that it was melt-in-your-mouth, and it was covered with tasty BBQ sauce. My husband’s Walt’s Burger was cooked perfectly and the toppings paired well with it. The fries were also delicious, with salt, rosemary, and thyme seasoning them.
I don’t normally talk about the drinks at a restaurant much, but since a lot of their drinks were from local breweries and wineries, I thought they would be worth a quick mention. The Huff Estates Pinot Grigio I got was fruity and sweet, but not too sweet, and the Prince Eddy’s cream ale my husband got was smooth, delicious, and refreshing.
The County Canteen really impressed me with their scrumptious food and drinks. If you decide to go there, I think your stomach will thank you because I was definitely a happy camper when we left for our next destination…a brewery. 🙂
Parsons Brewing Company
If you are looking for a good brewery in Prince Edward County to go to, you should try Parsons Brewing Company.
- The beer at Parsons Brewing Company is amazing. The Rum Brûlée is creamy and rum-flavoured. The Brown is the New Black Lager is not as creamy, but it is just as good and has a nice coffee flavour. The Devil’s Right Hand: The Elder is also delicious and is 8.5% ABV.
- Parsons Brewing Company has a nice, relaxing vibe there with plenty of outdoor, shaded seating.
- They play awesome reggae music, and apparently, they play it every Sunday.
